Ray Kurzweil’s book, the Singularity is Near, is monumental and a must read for all interested in the future of humanity and technology. Kurzweil has teamed up with X Prize founder Peter Diamandis to launch
Singularity University (h/t Ignorance is Futile). Classes will begin this summer and will be held at NASA’s Ames Research Center near the Silicon Valley.
Quick tangent – Kurzweil was an early campus entrepreneur. While an MIT undergrad he wrote a program that matched students to colleges. His program had thousands of criteria on colleges and then matched the best schools to students based on their responses to a questionaire he gave them. Supposedly he sold the firm for 100K (this was in the late 1960s!).
Back to Singularity U (official site), they are offering a 9 week program over the summer and also some shorter courses. They will focus on cross-disciplinary studies in biology, AI, nanotech, etc.). Forty spots are available for the 9 week graduate program. You better have a big brain if you are going to apply. While it doesn’t appear that they will be integrating entrepreneurship into the program (they should), there are likely to be some cool outputs from this. Lets keep our eyes on this.
